From the classification of the paste, disc sandpaper can be divided into two categories, adhesive disc sandpaper and backed disc sandpaper (also known as self-adhesive disc sandpaper and brushed disc sandpaper), among which brushed disc sandpaper is divided into non-porous brushed disc sandpaper and perforated brushed disc sandpaper.

There are some classification methods. For example, according to the size, there are 4-inch-, 5-inch-, 6-inch-diameter disc sandpaper. According to the disc sandpaper's surface, the common types are white sand surface, red sand surface, yellow sand surface, and the relatively rare blue sand surface and green sand surface. The raw materials of disc sandpaper are classified into silicon carbide disc sandpaper and brown corundum disc sandpaper. Silicon carbide disc sandpaper can be divided into green silicon carbide disc sandpaper and black silicon carbide disc sandpaper. Brown corundum disc sandpaper can be divided into ordinary brown corundum disc sandpaper, calcined brown corundum sandpaper, iridium-plated brown corundum disc sandpaper, semi-brittle corundum disc sandpaper, and so on.
